Proposal for Projects; Wakefield/Ground Farm and Interactive Learning Center (a draft)
Establishment of small-scale projects for interested participants
Rationale;
1. Assistance to interested participants who want to try their hand at farming but have no land base for operations.
2. Improvement of under-utilized acreage, interactive learning, increased productivity of the operation.
3. Diversification of ecosystem components.
Examples; small garden plots, small animal operations
Area of location; Wakefield/Ground Farm
Sponsor; Wakefield/Ground Farm
Footprint of projects; ¼ acre or less (~100’x100’)
Duration of project (initial) 6 months to 1 year, with possibility of extension
Plan;
1. Potential participants express initial interest.
2. Participant develops and submits a plan (based on experience in 2012 I find a *written* plan to be more of a predictor of reliability); process may be interactive with sponsor as the idea develops.
3. Plan is reviewed by sponsor (again from the experience of 2012, plan *will* be rviewed by sponsor *before* operations are initiated); dialog and possible revision.
4. Review of expense forecast, equipment and supplies requirement, time involved, projected return.
5. Examples
A. Small animal project; goat, sheep, hog, rabbit.
B. Garden project
C. Grain project
D. Small construction project; rocket mass heater, cob building, root cellar, composting toilet, shallow well, yurt. E. Beehives and honey production.
