Activism
I decided to include 'activism' as a heading after writing the sections 'Monsanto, Dow, and Big Agro', and 'The Dairy Industry'. Those sections were originally (and could still be) in the areas of 'Sustainable Agriculture' and 'Dairy Operations', respectively. However, some of the rhetoric quoted in 'Monsanto' and 'Dairy' is inflammatory, alien to the peaceful, positive tone (and world) I am aiming for. Hence, I picture the 'Activism' section as the one where you bring your sign and your riot gear.
In a formalistic way, everything I am writing about could be termed 'activism'. You are not sitting back with your mouth open like so much of a baby bird, waiting for your belly to be fed or your mind to be stuffed with the officially approved worldview. Learning is an active process, in fact, learning *is* activism. There are passive 'recipients', but there is no such thing as a passive learner.
The section 'World Community, Global Activism, and Social Justice followed along of its own accord.
'My country, right or wrong.' 'If right, to be kept right. If wrong, to be put right.'
The first statement is attributed to Stephen Decatur in 1816.
The second statement was added by Carl Schurz in 1872.
Activism is about putting things right.
(as of 3/6/12 this subject material is again spreading; 'Self-sufficiency' now has 'Farms', and 'Farms' has 'Government Regulation'- and there is activism again. Kind of like life.)
